If you regularly need to ferry large groups of people, be it family members, friends or work colleagues, the Ford Tourneo Custom could be just the vehicle you require.
Since it’s based on the celebrated Ford Transit, it comes as no surprise that the Tourneo Custom is big and, therefore, spacious. The vehicle comes in two lengths (L1 and L2) and is fitted with twin side sliding doors as standard, making it as easy as possible for travellers to get in and out. There’s room for up to eight passengers inside. This is in addition to the driver, who is treated to a Ford Focus-like cab, as well as an elevated position that provides excellent visibility. The Tourneo Connect offers impressive cargo volume: 1,200 litres (L1) or 1,900 litres (L2) when three rows of seats are in place.
The vehicle is installed with a 2.2-litre diesel engine that comes with a number different power outputs (from 99bhp to 153bhp). Fuel consumption figures vary depending on which engine and/or model is selected, but all provide economical driving. Despite its size, this passenger vehicle offers a car-like driving experience, not least because the inclusion of torque vectoring helps deliver enhanced stability, which is especially beneficial when cornering.
Audio entertainment is supplied by a ten-speaker sound system – and Bluetooth connectivity enables music streaming from compatible devices, allowing the driver to enjoy hands-free mobile phone communication. Higher-tier Titanium trims add an eight-inch touchscreen display, DAB digital radio, voice control functionality, and smartphone app integration, among other things.
Plenty of passive safety features are included as standard, such as numerous airbags and a minimum of three ISOFIX child-seat fixtures. Driver aids include an Anti-Lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Control, and Hill-Start Assist, which momentarily ‘locks’ the vehicle’s wheels whenever ignition is started on an incline.
Hybrid Technology
The innovative Tourneo Custom Plug-In Hybrid people-mover is the first vehicle in its class to deliver zero-emission driving capability without range anxiety, using an advanced hybrid powertrain that targets a pure-electric driving range of up to 50 KM and a total driving range of 500 KM.
Utilising two separate power sources, a battery powered electric motor drives the vehicle, while its 1.0L Ford EcoBoost petrol engine works to recharge the hybrid battery and extend the vehicle’s range.
The driver can select between four available EV modes, including EV Now which allows you to drive with zero emissions on electric-only power, this can take you up to a targeted range of 33 miles (55 kilometres) using the electric motor alone (range may vary depending on the vehicle, weather conditions and driving behaviour).
The PHEV battery can also be recharged using most AC network charging points.
The Tourneo Custom Plug-In Hybrid also features a unique-to-segment ability to arrange the two rear rows in conference format for outstanding access and enhanced interaction between passengers – or in two rows of three seats facing forward.
The interior of your Tourneo Custom Active can be completely reconfigured to match the activity you’re about to undertake, for example, removable rear seats help maximise loadspace or alter seating arrangements depending on your needs. With space for up to eight people, there is plenty of room and versatility built into this robust people carrier
This is coupled with the powerful and efficient 2.0-Litre Ford EcoBlue Diesel engine. Which comes with a choice of two powertrains, offering up to 185 PS and 415 Nm of torque and an optional automatic transmission.
