If you require a van that offers more capacity than the Courier or Connect but isn’t as big as the full-size Transit, the Ford Transit Custom could be just what you’re looking for.
Available in Base, Limited, Sport and Trend trim lines – and a wide range of sizes, the Transit Custom is an extremely flexible commercial vehicle. For example, a sliding side door and 180-degree opening rear doors ensure that loading and unloading is as easy as possible. You can choose between standard three-person Single Cab and five-seat Double Cab models. Whichever model you select, a full-size steel bulkhead separates cab from cargo. Depending on which variant you opt for, load capacity ranges from 3,470 litres to 6,830 litres. Similarly, payload starts at 583kg and maxes out at 1,484kg.
The Transit Custom features a 2.0-litre diesel engine, which is paired with six-speed manual transmission as standard and comes in a choice of 104bhp, 128bhp and 168bhp power outputs. Thanks to the addition of Auto Start-Stop, the van returns great economy and lower CO2 emissions. Auto Start-Stop works by cutting power to the engine whenever the vehicle comes to a brief stop, thus reducing unnecessary fuel consumption.
Base trims come with a four-speaker sound system as standard. Also included are AUX and USB inputs, and Bluetooth hands-free connectivity. Trend grades add a CD player – and AppLink, which allows you to access your smartphone’s apps via voice control.
The Transit Connect has earned a full-five star Euro NCAP crash-test rating, and possesses a good number of safety features. Included, for example, are Electronic Stability Programme and Side Wind Mitigation, the latter of which delivers enhanced stability in blustery weather conditions.
