There are plenty of reasons why the Ford Focus is one of Ireland’s best-selling cars – and not just because it’s a good-looking and practical vehicle. The top-of-the-range ST makes the Focus even more desirable by adding a host of eye-catching features and increased performance levels.
This dynamic hot hatch rides on 19-inch alloy wheels, boasts a trim-specific split radiator grille – which really makes the front fascia stand out – and sports an impressive-looking rear spoiler. The Focus ST also offers four-door access, making it easy for rear-row passengers to get in and out. What’s more, there’s just as much room in the ST as there is in the standard Focus, with plenty of space for three in the back row. If the car’s 292-litre boot space doesn’t suffice, simply fold the rear seats and you’ll soon have a 1,093-litre luggage capacity to play with.
The Focus ST is propelled by a 2.3-litre 280bhp petrol engine, which produces a peak torque of 420Nm at 1,800rpm, and races from 0-100kmph in roughly six seconds. This turbo-charged unit is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, helping to provide you with full control over the way in which the car performs.
The ST boasts a ten-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, featuring DAB radio, an AM/FM tuner, a touchscreen display and remote control functionality. As well as AUX and USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity features too, allowing music streaming and hands-free phone communication. Also included is an eight-inch touchscreen satellite navigation system that offers 3D mapping and real-time traffic updates.
The ST is as safe as it is fast, which is confirmed by its maximum five-star Euro NCAP crash-test rating. As well as all the passive safety features you’d expect, a wide range of driver aids include Traffic Sign Recognition technology and Lane-Keep Assist.
