Skoda Octavia Driving In Ireland

My name is Simon Barrett, Brand Manager in Spirit Skoda. I’ve been in the Motor Business for 24 years, 7 of which have been with Skoda.

Without doubt this is one of the most exciting periods for the Skoda brand here in Ireland, thanks to the arrival of the fully electric Enyaq iV and Skoda's upcoming range of plug-in hybrid models starting with the all new Skoda Superb and Skoda Octavia.

In Ireland, the Octavia has consistently held its place as one of the bestselling models, maintaining its position in the top 5 Skoda models sold. It is also frequently in the news thanks to its ability to hold resale value for customers.

So popular is the Octavia that Skoda have sold over 6 million of them since 1996. Now the question is how can the 8th Generation Octavia keep up with these kinds of numbers?

At Spirit Skoda we believe that it comes down to the following:

  • Line-up.
  • Sharp styling.
  • Engine options.
  • Price point.

Setting It Apart

I have been driving the 8th Generation Octavia for the past couple of weeks and believe it is a game changer! it's not just me who thinks so as there are already a number of great reviews already online from Ireland's leading motor journalists.

The New Octavia is based on the VW MQB platform. Something it shares with the Volkswagen Golf, Audi A3 & Seat Leon.

With one eye on the future, Octavia's comprehensive engine line up will include petrol, diesel and plug in hybrid versions.

Fans can also look forward to the sleek RS plug-in hybrid version in 245Bhp!

The latest Octavia cranks up the quality, but it’s just as practical as ever. And there is ample room for anything you need to bring with you on your travels.

For example, the boot capacity offers 600 litres – compare this to the New Golf or New Leon with only 380 litres of boot space!

I imagine the most popular Octavia will be the 1.0tsi with 110 bhp, quoting 5.4l l/100km, starting at €23,950.

There will also be a lot of interest in the Ambition, starting at €25,750. This comes with 17” alloys, rear LED lights, climatronic, rear view camera and automatic lights & wipers.

Moving up to the Style at €27,850, it comes with 18” alloys, keyless entry & start, virtual cockpit and a 10” touchscreen.

The New Octavia is a real statement of intent for Skoda. If you are looking for a practical vehicle that offers great value and low running costs then, I truly believe the New Octavia is the one for you!
